Zermatt in the summer is a secret paradise. The snow-capped mountains offer an escape from the crowded beaches, with clean, fresh air and healthy living; barbecues, golf, swimming, tennis, paragliding and mountain biking amongst the green meadows and mountain lakes, topped with a gourmet lunch on a sunny mountain terrace.
The village buzzes with a multitude of musical, cultural and gastronomic events. Our guests tell us there is only one small problem; there’s too much to do in one week!

Summer Hiking & Walking
Breathtaking mountain walks above Zermatt
There are numerous summer hiking and walking routes in and around Zermatt. These routes, many of which are ski runs in the winter, are also ideal for mountain bike enthusiasts. The 400 km of summer hiking and walking trails take from 30 minutes to one or more days, going from gentle larch forests to the foot of majestic glaciers.
You won’t get lost: the yellow signs indicate the various summer hiking trails and estimate of how long it will take you. In no time you will find yourself amongst thick forests, Alpine lakes, enchanting valleys, dramatic gorges, bridges over mountain streams and waterfalls, towering mountains and magnificent glaciers! Watch out for the local wildlife, the marmots, the chamois and the deer.
For a more relaxed exploration, the lifts or trains from Zermatt will take you high up the mountain (one way lift ticket will be required), where you may walk around and marvel at the views, before heading back down to Zermatt.
